QL Marine Products is in the business for the long term. For this to happen, we invest into solutions that help us to care for the environment, and continuously challenge ourselves to innovate and improve our processes.

Producing food is an energy intensive process. To reduce carbon footprint arising from energy consumption, we invested into solar panels in our operating base which have a total 1.56 MW capacity. Malaysia being situated near the equator receives good amount of sunshine throughout the year, which makes for a good source of clean energy. Investment into solar helps prevent an estimated 1,371 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) each year.

Wastewater
Treatment

We also monitor our mill discharge closely to minimise environmental impact from our production of fishmeal. As a marine products producer, we understand how precious water is as a resource for sustaining life. Wastewater is treated in a facility before being discharged, at a rate of 4,000,000 litres per annum.

Waste
Management

In similar vein, QL Marine Products has scheduled waste management for motor oil used in our production lines. This helps prevent hazardous material ending up in landfills and potentially contaminating the earth. Our latest figures show 1.25 metric tonnes of waste being sorted out before proper disposal.

To further reduce waste ending up in landfills, we follow an extensive recycling programme for waste material that can be recycled. For instance, packaging material that do not meet our requirements for use, and other containers and trays from our supply chain are sent to recycling centres for proper disposal. This extends to scrap batteries, iron and printer cartridges as well, among other things.

Socio-economy

QL Marine Products also provides employment opportunities for the local community in which we operate. This helps raise the local community’s socio-economics and contribute to better quality of life for their families.
